The Bison Blog is also updated once a week. On this page we post thought-provoking essays that deal with contemporary religious, social, cultural, and spiritual issues and controversies. Please feel free to respond to any of the Bison Blog postings.
In February, 2022 two members of our congregation participated in a 15-day trip to the Holy Land. Photos from their trip can be viewed by going to the "Web Worship" page.
Our 145th Birthday Celebration was held on August 14-15, 2021 We had great weather, marvelous support from the community, a delightful hymn sing and camp meeting on Saturday night, a glorious worship service on Sunday morning (with special thanks to Paul Akin, our guest speaker, and the Cedar River First Nations Church), and a lovely ceremony dedicating the Buffalo Labyrinth.
In Saturday's Cedar Rapids Gazette, the church was featured in an article by Katie Mills Giorgio. Here is a link to her article on the Gazette website: Buffalo UMC Celebrates 145th Anniversary.
The following slideshow focuses on the August 15 afternoon activities following the luncheon, featuring the Cedar River First Nations Church (drumming, singing, and dancing) and the memorial service at the newly installed Labyrinth. A second slideshow provides a larger selection of photos portraying the Native Americans' contribution to Buffalo's celebration. Photographs are by Jacob VanDam (jmvportraits).
John Rutter's beautiful anthem The Lord Bless You and Keep You is performed for choir, by Bobby Goulde . . . and Bobby Goulder alone. Goulder used technology – and the help of a few friends – to turn himself into a one-man vocal ensemble of nine singers. Thanks to Brian Milford for sending us a link to this beautiful performance.
Posted below this paragraph is a slideshow of photographs taken at Buffalo two weeks after the August 10, 2020 derecho . We were deeply saddened by the loss of our garden shed and the massive white oak west of the church building (which did receive some damage, including the destruction of the oven's exhaust system), but we are fortunate that the damage was relatively minor and no one was injured.
